Camp Bow Wow Hosts Weight-Loss Challenge

This summer, Camp Bow Wow, a pet care services provider based in Boulder, Colo., challenged pet owners and their pets to live a healthier lifestyle.
Cam Bow Wow’s Furry Fitness Challenge invited pet owners to create a webpage on www.campbowwow.com and keep track of their weight and their pet’s weight. The team that loses the highest combined percentage of weight between June 11 and Aug. 6 was to receive a complementary full year of service at a Camp Bow Wow or Home Buddies location of their choice.
“Simply introducing play and exercise back into a pet’s daily routine, as we do with our ‘all day play’ environment at Camp Bow Wow and our dog walking services at Home Buddies, as well as adjusting diet, have shown to improve socialization and overall physical and mental health for our pets,” said Camp Bow Wow CEO and founder Heidi Ganahl. “We hope that this initiative will encourage owners to not only begin to lead healthier lifestyles for themselves, but also for their furry friends.”
To assist participants in their weight loss, Camp Bow Wow staff, veterinarian Derrick Landini DVM and general surgeon and weight-loss specialist Dr. Michael Snyder, offered up workout tips, food suggestions and other health-related information. Landini and his staff also ran the website’s “Ask the Vet” section, which allowed contestants to write in with questions about their pet’s weight.
Camp Bow Wow franchisees celebrated the launch of the contest by hosting special events for pets and their owners. Representatives from local gyms and veterinary clinics were on hand at most of the events.
In addition to the full year of free services at Camp Bow Wow or Home Buddies, the challenge winner was to receive $150-worth of pet products from online retailer FetchDog. FetchDog was also to provide prizes to the top 25 runners-up
